Constellations – The Space where healing can take place
When I am ill I got to a doctor and hope he will heal me.
But actually the doctor doesn’t heal us. He cannot make the bones grow together when our leg is broken. Only the healing forces of our body can do that. The doctor can do a lot to support this healing process. For example to bring the bones in a better position and put a plaster so the healing can take place.
The same is with our soul. Life has a healing energy and we have this incredible ability to heal, get over difficult and traumatic experiences and build even new strengths out of them. There are many ways how we can support this healing processes and I am happy to learn more and more. One method I am personally working with joy for 15 years are systemic constellations.
Constellations Work is a method of exploring the deeper dynamics that exist within all systems, influencing us at a soul level, affecting how we behave, feel and make decisions. The dynamic of a system is largely out of our conscious awareness yet they affect our life in a dramatic way. Constellations can help us to get new insight about these dynamics and help us to change them towards a good solution.
Systemic constellations can help you to look at a situation you are personally involved in, from a meta-position. You can use them as an intervention when you are stuck and you want to take a look at what is going on. The process brings up often surprising perspectives and ideas. A constellation is a way of representing the pattern of relationships within a system. These relationships may be between family members, work colleagues, friends, or even more abstract elements in our inner world, such as my goal and an obstacle that hinders me to reach it.
Constellations offer an opportunity to
– Invite more joy and energy into your life
– solve conflicts in your professional and personal environment
– make coherent decisions
– develop and implement visions and personal goals
– get stronger connected with your resources and inner strengths
– develop more focus, clarity and inner balance.
Constellation work is an intuitive process where we transform the inner picture we have of an issue in a spatial description. In a preliminary solution-focused conversation, coach and client define which aspects of the client’s issue are essential to achieve the desired goal. As a next step the client chooses members from a group to represent relevant elements, individuals or functions and gives them a specific place in the room in relation to the other representatives. These representatives, who know preferable as little as possible about the details of the issue, experience reactions and feelings that strongly resemble the reactions and feelings of the actual people or elements they are being asked to represent. This astonishing ability of „representing perception“ helps to find new solutions and initiate a change in the desired direction.
To respect clients’ confidentiality, both the solution-focused conversation and the constellation itself can be carried out “blind”, without revealing any details of the client’s issue.
The method of Systemic Structural Constellations is developed in the 80th by Insa Sparrer and Prof. Matthias Varga von Kibéd (founder of the SySt®-Institute in Munich, Germany). It builds on a range of group simulation procedures, including the Family Constellations of Bert Hellinger, Family Therapy of Virginia Satir, Hypnotherapy (Milton Erickson) and the Solution Focused Therapy (Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg). Originally it was used mainly in therapeutic context but it has developed in the last 20 year to a method that has proven great value to understand organizational and personal issues and their success factors.
How can I take part in a constellation workshop?
There is no previous knowledge or experience required to participate at a constellation session. You can just observe, be a representative in a client’s constellation or even work on your own topic yourself as a client. Each role offers learning and development opportunities.
You should bring an open mind, curiosity to discover something new and willingness to support others in their development.
On the workshop day, we will have time to work on some constellations.
They can create a space where healing can happen.
